About The Role

Horwich Farrelly are creating a new team to handle third party property damage claims on behalf of Insurer Client Admiral. This is a great opportunity for an employee to be part of a new stream of work whilst gaining exposure to a new area of law. There will be a variety of cases including damage to personal and commercial properties and street furniture. The team will be led by Partner Paul Brandish and we are looking for candidates who have previous experience of running a litigated caseload. 

Once in the role, you will assist on the investigation and litigation on a variety of cases and have experience of drafting court documents, witness statements and instructions to counsel. You will be expected to manage a case load effectively, acquiring and presenting relevant information on each case in order to ensure a conclusion can be reached in terms of next actions as quickly as possible for the client.

Part of the caseload involves being comfortable negotiating settlements on behalf of our client, providing advice and assessing/reviewing damages. Alongside running your own caseload you can gain further exposure to higher value claims by assisting the team with the more complex and higher value property damage claims. For this role the ability to analyse and evaluate information logically, good communication skills and the ability to relate well to clients is important.

Main Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a high level of technical expertise and an ability to apply it in a professional way, achieving positive results on a variety of cases
  • Understand client requirements and manage cases in line with service level agreements and best practice
  • Analyse risk and develop sound judgement, enabling the justification of decisions to clients
  • Support case preparation by preparing case summaries and organising materials for case review
  • Ensure appropriate control of work in progress such as, key dates, risk management and billing
  • To ensure that all cases are dealt with in compliance with Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and Law Society Practice Management Standards.
  • To use the case management system to process information such as time-recording, letters and emails.

Personal Specification
  • Litigation experience 
  • Experience of communicating with clients and maintaining strong relationships 
  • Knowledge of the insurance market
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • A keen interest in the department
  • Is passionate about achieving great results for our clients and the firm
  • Not afraid to question and challenge information and evidence put forward by the parties (and their representatives) in a case
  • Demonstrates commercial awareness to legal issues
