About Credit Hire Department

The Horwich Farrelly Credit Hire department is led by two Partners who are experts in their field, between them they oversee a growing team of 60 Credit Hire Specialists who are based in our Manchester, London and Cardiff offices.

The department is at the forefront of strategic litigation in this area, having won leading cases such as Clayton v EUI Ltd, Akhtar v Boland and A-Line Taxis v Ward.

As the market has evolved the team have also developed strong capabilities in the increasingly problematic areas of diminution, credit repair, storage and recovery, credit hire fraud, and costs.

Our full time hours are 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday 7 hours per day working flexible hours between 7am to 6pm.

 Who are we looking for?

We have exciting opportunities available for individuals who wants to join an enterprising and growing team.  In terms of experience we are looking to fill a number of positions ranging from Paralegal to Solicitor level. The ideal candidate will have previous file handling experience or worked in the insurance industry. Whilst experience and qualifications are desirable, above all we hire based on potential so, if you are enthusiastic and want to learn and develop within an exciting and niche area of law, we are able to offer you the training to succeed.

Overview of the role

The Credit Hire team deal with insurance cases whereby a replacement vehicle has been hired on a deferred credit basis and it is their job to investigate the individuals, credit hire companies and beyond to determine if there are any fraud indicators and as to the genuine nature of the claim.

The successful candidate will predominantly be handling their own case load of pre-litigated delegated authority claims. In addition, the Manchester team deals with some of the highest value and most technically complex credit hire cases with some exceeding £50K. These can include appeals, credit hire fraud and strategic litigation; so the role represents a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to high quality and challenging work. There will also be ample opportunities to help shape strategy and for contact with insurer clients.

 Main Duties of the Role Include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Handling own case load of pre-litigated claims with potential exposure to litigated matters.  
  • Running cases in accordance with insurer client SLAs and agreed strategies.
  • Reviewing quantum, valuing special damages and formalising case plans.
  • Entering into telephone negotiations, liaising with third party solicitors and insurers, own insurer clients and lay clients.
  • Managing time in an effective manner with organisational skills and use of case management system.
  • Seeing cases through from commencement to conclusion whilst dealing with cases in a cost effective matter.
  • Ensure that Management Information on all cases is updated accurately and regularly in accordance with client SLA’s.
  • Ensure that all cases are dealt with in compliance with Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and Law Society Practice Management Standards.
  • Undergo regular supervision with your line manager along with our open communication policy, receiving day-to-day support in handling your varied and busy caseload.
 
Personal Specification

  • Credit Hire experience – Preferable
  • Defendant experience – Preferable
  • Proven experience of running a pre-litigated case load at a Solicitors, Insurance Company or Credit Hire Company – Preferable
  • Client-centric approach and excellent client care skills – Essential
  • Experience of communicating and working with clients – Essential
  • The ability to run an effective diary system - Essential
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills - Essential
  • Knowledge of the CPR, the SRA Code of Conduct and their application Preferable
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills, both written and verbal - Essential
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure - Essential
