About The Role

The basic purpose of the job and its primary objectives

Following a Road Traffic Accident, Horwich Farrelly’s Recoveries team are instructed by insurance companies to determine liability and then recover uninsured losses and insurer’s outlay from third parties. Horwich Farrelly has been undertaking recoveries work for clients for a number of years and the team have a great reputation due to their specialist industry experience securing many millions of pounds per annum for clients.

The Recoveries department is growing due to client demand, this role is an exciting opportunity for someone to make a positive impact and contribute to the success of the department whilst ensuring a high quality service to the client. We are looking for someone with drive and passion who thrives in a busy environment therefore a strong degree of tenacity, initiative and organisation are key attributes for this role.

The ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge of litigation processes as the requirement is to litigate on many of the cases rather than enter into negotiations for settlement. We will expect you to assist on the investigation and litigation on a variety of cases and have experience of drafting court documents, witness statements and instructions to counsel. Whilst Recoveries experience is desirable this role would be well suited to someone who has experience of handling claimant personal injury cases. You will be expected to manage a case load effectively, acquiring and presenting relevant information on each case in order to ensure a conclusion can be reached in terms of next actions as quickly as possible.

Main Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a high level of technical expertise and an ability to apply it in a professional way, achieving positive results on a variety of cases.
  • Understand client requirements and manage cases in line with service level agreements and best practice.
  • Analyse risk and develop sound judgement, enabling the justification of decisions to clients
  • To use the case management system to process information such as time-recording, letters and emails.
  • Maintain case costs by verifying outstanding balances with supervisor, clients, and providers.
  • Support case preparation by preparing case summaries and organising materials for case review.
  • Ensure appropriate control of work in progress such as, key dates, risk management and billing
  • Understand individual role in the context of the department and pro-actively seek to contribute to increased efficiency in developing a case load appropriate to level of technical, legal knowledge.
  • The ability to work well within the wider team, to self-motivate and to provide guidance and support to junior team members when required.
  • To determine liability and issue proceedings to recover uninsured losses and insurer’s outlay from the third party.
  • To ensure that all cases are dealt with in compliance with Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and Law Society Practice Management Standards.

Personal Specification

  • Litigation experience

  • Experience of communicating with clients and maintaining strong relationships
