About The Role

The basic purpose of the job and its primary objectives

Horwich Farrelly is at the start of a transformation agenda that will see change across the entire firm. We are seeking a hands on DBA to support a number of these major IT system transformation programs. Take ownership of the current SQL estate to provide support and design a database transformation story that aligns with overall infrastructure plans to move services into the cloud.

Main Responsibilities

A) Database design and development

  • Provide overall design of data management requirements for HF projects

  • Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges)

  • Expertise in Installation, configuration and managing database servers or services to ensure better performance and application availability.

 

B) Operational management and ownership of the HF Database estate

  • Performs systems and application monitoring and alerting

  • Works with the Engineering teams in maintaining the stored procedures, indexes, etc.

  • Operationalizes new technologies introduced into the environment

  • Creating database users, controlling access to SQL Server and making sure right people get access to right data and looking after the security issues

  • Responsible for disaster recovery planning for SQL Servers.

 

C) Acting as the SME for data strategy and transformation activities

  • Product evaluation

  • Develop long term strategies that work with the broader business roadmap

 

Experience

  • Experience in working in an agile environment, using methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban beneficial
  • Management and responsibility of all database platforms (On-premise and Cloud)

  • Microsoft Azure DB technology stack

  • Automates Systems Management tasks

  • PowerShell\VBS\SQL Scripting

  • Ability to demonstrate creative thinking, advanced problem-solving, and troubleshooting

  • Experience with MS SQL Server (versions 2012, 2014, & 2016)

  • Knowledge of High Availability solutions, such as Mirroring, Replication, Clustering, & Always On (Availability Groups)

  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, integrity, and personal responsibility

  • Eager to learn new technologies & take personal responsibility/ownership for technical projects

  • Experience in Query Optimization and Performance Tuning, using SQL Profiler and other troubleshooting tools

  • Permissions/User Management experience is highly desired

  • Expertise in performing in-place upgrade or a side-by-side migration from SQL server

  • Database tuning and performance monitoring

  • Hands on Experience in installing, configuring, and monitoring, troubleshooting and managing SQL Server

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years’ experience within database administration
